Greensburg female spotlight athlete: Morgan Berardi
Morgan Berardi
School: Carmichaels
Class: Sophomore
Sport: Basketball
Claim to fame: Berardi, a guard, scored 19 points in a nonsection victory at Beth-Center on Feb. 1. However, her best game of the season was Jan. 17, when she torched Mapletown for a career-high 39 points.
"She has great command on the floor as a leader. She came in last year as a freshman, and you couldn't tell she was a freshman," Carmichaels coach Jim Lane said. "She was more of a distributor last year. But you can tell this season she has taken a lot of the scoring burden on herself."
Starting as a freshman last season: "It was an honor in a way. I was friends with all the girls on the team, so it was easy to get along with everybody."
Offseason work: "Me and my friend go to the local gym all the time to play basketball and just shoot around."
Scoring 39 points against a Section 3-A rival: "It felt good because they're a really big rival. So it meant more than it would have against another team."
Pregame: "I just talk with my team, and they get me pumped — and listen to my iPod."
