The works of Nikita McClellan of Lowber, a senior at Seton Hill University, are on display at the 28 West Second Street Gallery in Greensburg.

Artistic expression is abloom in Greensburg.

Seton Hill University is offering free admission to senior art exhibits at its temporary Harlan Gallery at 28 W. Second St. in the city.

“The senior art exhibits represent the culmination of the students' studio work at Seton Hill ...,” said Carol Brode, director of the Harlan Gallery. “I hope that people enjoy viewing the variety of artistic expression created by our students.”

Exhibits began Monday and will continue through May 15. Hours at 28 West Second Gallery are 5-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 1-3 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.

“Harlan Gallery will remain at the 28 West Second Gallery throughout this semester, and will continue to lease space in downtown Greensburg until the completion of the new Dance & Visual Arts (Center) building,” Brode said. “The new gallery will be impressive, and will include a smaller gallery devoted to the work of the art students, while the main gallery will present a variety of professional exhibits by contemporary artists.”

Available to art lovers are:

• The first show at the gallery, which will continue through Sunday after opening Monday. On display are works by Maury Smith of Claridge, Amanda Neyenhouse of Jeannette and Nikita McClellan of Lowber. A reception will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday.

“Art is my way of bringing what I see in my head to life. It is a way for me to also focus on nuances that many may not notice in life and bring it to the forefront,” McClellan said. ”I am especially interested in eyes. No two people have the same eyes. Sure, colors are the same on a basic level, but if one is to take a closer look, they are multifaceted, with numerous colors and patterns.”

She said her exhibit shows the transition of her work throughout her college career.

“I hope that people will take their own meaning from my art. As long as it speaks to them in some way and they have a feeling of seeing something in a new way, then I have accomplished what I have set out to do,” McClellan said.

• Colleen Johnston of Pittsburgh, Sarah Cindric of McKeesport and Laura Jandreau of Carnegie will exhibit their artwork from Tuesday through March 31. Johnson will present a gallery talk at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and Cindric will speak at 6 p.m. March 31. A reception will be held 1-3 p.m. March 30.

• Works by Ann Beckel of Greensburg, John Guerrini of Ellwood City and Lauralee Markle of Latrobe will be offered in the exhibit to run from April 2 through April 8. Beckel will present a gallery talk at 6 p.m. on April 2. Markle will speak at 6 p.m. April 7. A reception will be held 4-6 p.m. April 5.

Markle said the show, which includes works from the past three years, represents her evolution as an artist.

“My art gives me a way to express myself,” she said. “Through my journey I find new information about myself. I focus more on the process and not on the product. With my senior show, I want others to see how I express myself.”

• Sean Smith of Manchester, Md., will offer his senior exhibit from April 10-16. A reception will be held 4-7 p.m. on April 12, with a gallery talk from Smith at 6 p.m. on April 16 at 6 p.m.

• The works of Ken Nicholson of Norvelt will be exhibited from April 22-28. He will present a gallery talk at 6 p.m. on April 23. A reception will be held 7-9 p.m. on April 26
