Greensburg on lookout for new parking manager

Greensburg is looking to hire another parking facilities manager, five months after replacing the former manager who was fired for allegedly stealing approximately $5,000 in parking revenue. The city is considering a replacement for Linda Koval because she applied for an accounts payable position that will become vacant next spring with the retirement of Vicki O'Neil, said Thomas Sphon, city administrator. City workers were given the opportunity to apply for the vacancy earlier this month. The city wants to have a replacement who will be trained in the job by O'Neil. Although Koval has not been formally hired for the accounts payable position, the city has advertised for applications from its employees to fill the position of parking facilities manager. The deadline for applications is noon Tuesday, which will allow council to review the applications when it holds an agenda meeting at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sphon said. Both the accounts payable position and the parking facilities manager are scheduled to receive a salary of $28,771 next year, according to the tentative budget city council adopted earlier this month. Koval could be hired for the accounts payable job at council's Dec. 8 meeting. Depending upon the applications for the parking facilities manager, the city could hire a replacement for Koval on Dec. 8 or seek applicants from outside city offices, Sphon said. Koval was hired in July to replace William DeFalco, who was fired in June because he was charged with stealing $5,000 in parking revenue during the previous 18 months. DeFalco has reimbursed the city for the money he allegedly stole.
