Indiana senior Luke Lewandowski is the Tribune-Review Athlete of the Week for Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014.

Luke Lewandowski

School: Indiana

Year: Senior

Sport: Hockey

Claim to fame: Lewandowski, who has 11 points this season, recorded a hat trick and added an assist to lead Indiana (4-1-1) to a 4-4 tie against Morgantown on Oct. 23. Earlier in the season, he scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-3 win over Harborcreek.

What are your college plans?

I want to go to a four-year college, but I’m not sure where. I might play college hockey or do something at the club level. I’m looking at Pitt, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Penn State. The sports atmosphere and how competitive the teams are will aid in my decision with a college. I’m looking into a major in engineering or something math-related.

Where did you learn your leadership qualities?

A lot of it comes from my brother (Lance), who was not the star of the team. He was the hardest-playing player, and he skated hard. I try to do the same.

What were your goals going into the season?

Our goal is to win the entire league (PIHL Class B). We have a great shot with young talent and a lot hard work. We also want too keep the Indiana hockey tradition and keep it strong as we have been for the past four years.

How do you keep the young players on the team focused?

It’s a challenge because we don’t have many superstars. They don’t look up to any role model on the team. They aren’t looking for one person to score the clutch goal. I have to get their heads on straight so they can be the person to score the goal in the big moment.

Who is your favorite NHL player and why?

Patric Hornqvist. I watched him while he was with the Predators and now with the Penguins I get to watch him closer. He’s excellent in front of the net. With him being on the Crosby line, he plays a well-balanced game.

Olivia Binda

School: Greensburg Central Catholic

Year: Senior

Sport: Soccer

Claim to fame: Binda, who has 13 shutouts this season, recorded seven saves to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (23-1) to a 4-0 win over Shady Side Academy in the PIAA Class A quarterfinals Saturday. She collected 12 saves in a 4-0 win over McConnellsburg on Nov. 4.

What are your college plans?

I’m looking to play at West Virginia Wesleyan. I plan in majoring in physical therapy. The campus is beautiful, and the people are great. I fit in well with the team.

What’s the difference between last year’s team and this year’s team?

We play as a team, a possession-based team.

How do you keep yourself engaged in each moment of every game?

I have a great view and constantly watch the ball. I watch how the opponent’s goalkeeper plays the position. I encourage my teammates.

How is it to have someone like Bailey Cartwright on your team?

Bailey has the speed of Frannie Crouse and the skills of Malea Fabean. She has a good surrounding team around her. The team around her is able to feed the ball to her, and she is able to capitalize on those chances.

When you graduate, what do you want to be remembered for?

I want to be known for my leadership. Also, I want to be remembered for my positivity towards my teammates and classmates.
