The progressives often use a false narrative — quoting gun crime statistics — to promote gun control ideology.
As a certified safety professional, I understand the need to do a proper root cause analysis to identify the real problem. Nearly all safety and quality professionals recognize that to abate a problem, you must first identify the actual causes of a problem. The liberal media and politicians quote gun crime statistics, but fail to identify the true root causes of gun crime.
The gun does not load itself and point itself at a target. Even in the case of an accidental shooting due to the gun malfunctioning, the root cause could be identified as a poor quality control program by the gun manufacturer. There is no situation where the gun is the actual root cause of a gun-related crime.
It's clear the progressives refuse to identify two of the causal factors of gun crime:
• An increase in gang activities, and
• Increased drug activities.
The progressives ignore these causal factors because they don't want to offend part of the Democrat Party base.
Look at the issue deeply and you'll find a root cause of these two causal factors is the breakdown of the family unit and a lack of moral guidance, including religion. The other causal factor in increased gun crime is mental illness. Until mental illness, illicit drug use, and gangs are properly addressed and controlled, violent crime will continue regardless of whether it is committed with a gun or not.
If the progressives' real goal is to protect life and property, they need to address the real causes. Their refusal to do so indicates to me they have an alternate agenda.
