Gunman holds up GWOP fashion store on South Side

A gunman held up a South Side store last night and made off with $160 worth of clothing he had tried on a short time earlier, Pittsburgh police said.

There were no injuries in the holdup that occurred around 6 p.m. at the GWOP fashion store on East Carson Street, police Lt. Daniel M. Herrmann said.

A man and a woman came into the store, tried on some clothing and browsed for a while before leaving, saying they needed to get some money, Herrmann said. The man returned about 10 minutes later with a handgun and grabbed the items — a $60 pair of jeans, $75 worth of T-shirts and a $25 pair of shorts — before fleeing, Herrmann said.

The stolen items were among the cheapest merchandise in the store, employees told detectives. The store's website states that it specializes in "high end, brand-name urban clothing."

The man was described as white, 6 feet tall with medium build, short, dark hair and clean shaven. He was wearing a blue, hooded Penn State sweatshirt, a blue Penn State ballcap, bluejeans and white shoes.

The woman was described as white, 5 feet, 3 inches tall with shoulder-length, blond hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt, bluejeans and black shoes.

Anyone with information about the holdup is asked to call detectives at 412-323-7800.
