Police in Amarillo, Texas, say there isn't enough evidence yet to say a crime was committed to a human head found in a garbage truck.

Monday, a solid-waste company employee spotted the head in the hopper of his truck while compressing the trash, the Amarillo Globe News reported Tuesday. The worker immediately stopped the truck and notified a supervisor, who called police.

A crime scene investigator got into a hazardous materials suit and climbed into the hopper to take photographs and bag and remove the head.

The truck had dropped off a full load and then added more than 40 dumpsters into its hopper before the discovery, so investigators spent the rest of the day sorting through the trash after the truck emptied it in the city's transfer station.

Police did not release an estimated age, the race or gender of the person.
