FUND-RAISERS

  • An art auction sponsored by the Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania is being held at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the agency's Woodlands Activity Center, 134 Shenot Road, Wexford. A preview will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 per person.

    In addition to the auction, there will be food, door prizes and a raffle. For tickets and information, call 800-243-5787.

    Proceeds will benefit programs serving children, teens and adults with disabilities.

  • The American Cancer Society is offering the 2003 Golf Pass for a minimum donation of $30. The pass provides a free round of golf or golf discount at nearly 130 golf courses in Pennsylvania, including Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Toftrees Golf Club and The Golf Club at Hidden Valley.

    The golf pass can be ordered through local offices of the American Cancer Society or by calling 888-227-5445.

    The agency is also looking for assistance in selling the 2003 Golf Pass. Individuals who sell five passes will receive a free one for themselves. Those who sell 10 passes have their choice of receiving a Cutter & Buck golf shirt or two golf passes.

    BLOOD DRIVES

  • The Armstrong County Chapter of the American Red Cross is conducting blood drives from noon-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kittanning Elks Club and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Department.

    EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

  • UPMC Sports Medicine's annual training seminar series for the Pittsburgh Marathon, set for May 4, will begin Saturday. The free program will be held from 10 a.m.-noon in the LHAS Auditorium at UPMC Montefiore, in Oakland.

    Additional seminars are slated as follows: Jan. 11, training principles and free musculoskeletal screenings; Feb. 15, injury prevention; March 15, tapering before the marathon; May 3, final preparations.

  • Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, is the site for the next session of the American Cancer Society's "Look Good Feel Better" program to be held 6-8 p.m. Dec. 10 in the hospital's board conference room.

    The free public service program is dedicated to teaching female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image while undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Additional programs are scheduled throughout the year.

  • "Do You Stutter: Straight Talk for Teens," a 35-minute videotape which addresses teens' concerns about stuttering, is available at Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, downtown Greensburg.

    SPECIAL EVENTS

    Wigs 'n More, in Latrobe, and ContourMed Co. are hosting a special event 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Dec. 12 to offer custom fitting of breast prosthetics using 3-D computerized technology. A ContourMed representative will be on hand to answer questions about the different prosthetics and options available. Certified fitters will also be on staff to assist with other items such as sports and swimwear, hair wear, hats and turbans. The event is free.
