Here, not there

Having just returned from a trip to Charleston, S.C., we traveled a number of interstate highways. The roadsides in West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina are so well kept, landscaped and litter-free . We saw several work crews picking up litter and cannot help but wonder where they are on I-79 and I-279.

It is embarrassing to have so many visitors, especially from Ontario, travel along those interstates. From a few miles north of the visitor center, I-79 is unkempt and unsightly in places.

There is litter behind guardrails, up hillsides and in not all but most median areas. There is also untrimmed overgrowth, especially near bridges and where there are hillsides in medians. The Ohio River bridge on I-79 is a mess.

Western Pennsylvania is so beautiful! Please, PennDOT, make an effort to keep our roadsides as nice as our neighbors do theirs.
