Japanese videogame developer is hoping to fatten its profits with an electronic bathroom scale that remembers someone's weight and offers verbal encouragement.
Due out this spring, the XaviX Health and Family Fitness Manager wirelessly communicates with the XaviXPORT set-top box, which is plugged into a television, the New York Times said Thursday.
The device is a spin-off of the SSD Co.'s series of interactive XaviX games, which let consumers swing plastic bats, golf clubs and other things to play electronic versions of sports on their television sets.
The scale not only measures weight, but also tracks body fat and body mass and analyzes the data for display on a television screen, said SSD spokeswoman Rachel Woodland.
As if that weren't high-tech enough, the device also offers guidance and words of encouragement, Woodland said.
A price for the device has not yet been established.
