Allegheny Conference

Freeport (3-3, 3-3) at Deer Lakes (1-5, 1-4),

7:30 p.m. Friday

• Freeport has climbed back into the hunt for a WPIAL playoff berth after starting the season 0-3. Freeport junior Andrew Vidra showed off his versatility last week by kicking two field goals and rushing for 73 yards and a touchdown in a 26-0 win over West Shamokin. Freeport has allowed only 20 points in the last three games combined. ... Last year, Freeport clobbered Deer Lakes, 61-0. Last week, Deer Lakes suffered a 42-7 setback at Farrell in a non-conference game. The week before, Deer Lakes beat West Shamokin, 20-0.

CLASS A

Eastern Conference

Apollo-Ridge (2-4, 0-2) at Riverview (3-3, 2-1),

noon Saturday

• A loss for Apollo-Ridge this week likely would mean the Vikings would have to win their last two games to make the WPIAL Class A playoffs. The Apollo-Ridge ground attack has been one of the most productive in the WPIAL. Junior running backs Derek Bandurak and Justin Reddy have combined for nearly 1,500 yards on the ground. ... Riverview had won three games in a row until running into the brick wall known as Clairton last week. The Raiders will try to rebound from being shut out, 55-0, by the Bears. Riverview senior defensive lineman Jake DeZort is the reigning Eastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Non-conference

North Catholic (2-4) at Leechburg (2-4),

7:30 p.m. Friday

• Leechburg is riding the high of a 47-20 win over Wilkinsburg last week. That was the Blue Devils' highest offensive output since Week 2 of the 2000 season. In that game, Leechburg beat Neshannock, 47-12. ... In 2006, Leechburg fell at North Catholic, 26-6. North Catholic competes in the Class A Big Seven Conference.

District 9

Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference

Allegheny-Clarion Valley (0-6, 0-4) at Redbank Valley (5-1, 3-1),

7 p.m. Friday

• Redbank Valley bashed Maplewood, 48-19, last week. The Bulldogs scored 41 points in the first half and had the mercy rule in effect throughout the second half. Jake Smith completed 8 of 11 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Smith also scored on a 20 yard touchdown run. ... A-C Valley has lost 19 consecutive games and has been outscored, 205-26, this year.

Karns City (6-0, 4-0) at Moniteau (5-1, 4-0),

7 p.m. Friday

• Karns City beat Clarion, 31-7, last week. Quarterback Anthony Stimac had a career-high 193 yards and three touchdowns, two of which were to Stephon Conto. Stimac rushed for 55 yards and threw two interceptions, but recorded an interception of his own on defense. ... Moniteau is in second place in the KSAC. Last year, both teams were 6-0 when they faced off. Karns City won, 20-18, and went on to reach the District 9 Class A championship game. Moniteau's lone loss this year was to St. Mary's. Last week, Moniteau beat Western Beaver, 22-14.
