High school roundup: Bethel Park girls edge Baldwin in double OT
Marisa Johnson scored her second goal of the game five minutes into double overtime to give Bethel Park a 3-2 victory over Baldwin on Wednesday night.
Megan Barr also scored for Bethel Park (5-3-1, 5-0-1).
Pine-Richland 6, Shaler 0 — Amanda Kalin scored two goals to help Pine-Richland (7-2, 4-2) to a victory in Section 2-AAA.
Franklin Regional 3, Kiski Area 2 — Autumn Velasquez scored two goals, including the winner with four minutes left, to lead Franklin Regional (6-0-2, 6-0-1) to a win in Section 3-AAA.
Upper St. Clair 4, Mt. Lebanon 1 — Brianna Erdman scored twice, and Heather Godwin and Emma Hasco also scored to lead Upper St. Clair (6-0-3, 5-0-1) to a Section 5-AAA win.
Hopewell 3, Central Valley 2 — Kayleen Schwegler had two goals, and Abby Losco added another as Hopewell (6-2, 5-1) knocked off No. 2 Central Valley (5-1-1, 4-1-1) in Section 3-AA. Samantha Fields and Cassie Pritt scored for Central Valley.
Yough 5, Southmoreland 0 — Shawna Zaken scored three goals to lead Yough (6-0-1, 5-0) to a victory in Section 1-AA.
Belle Vernon 5, Elizabeth Forward 0 — Sam Mendicino, Caitlin Caldwell (2), Marissa Zetty and McKenna Keffel scored to give Belle Vernon (8-0, 6-0) a Section 4-AA victory. The Leopards have yet to allow a goal this season.
Quigley Catholic 4, South Side Beaver 3 (OT) — Julia Myron scored two goals, including the winner in overtime, to lead Quigley Catholic (2-6, 1-6) in Section 1-A. Hanna Knox scored all three goals for South Side Beaver (0-7, 0-7).
Charleroi 7, Monessen 0 — Adrianna Gottheld had three goals, and Kyra Watkins added two more as Charleroi (7-2, 6-1) won in Section 2-A.
Shady Side Academy 7, Steel Valley 0 — Elizabeth Harper and Courtney Clark had two goals apiece, and goaltender Samantha Morlaccis earned the shutout for No. 5 Shady Side Academy (6-2, 6-1) in Section 4-A.
Greensburg C.C. 12, Jeannette0 — Bailey Cartright led eight different goal scorers with three goals as No. 1 Greensburg Central Catholic (8-0, 7-0) was victorious in Section 4-A.
Serra Catholic 3, South Allegheny 2 — Katie Sieg had all three goals to lead Serra Catholic (4-4, 4-3) to a win in Section 7-A.
Penn-Trafford 7, Albert Gallatin 0 — Galen Kreutzberger scored three goals to lead Penn-Trafford (6-0, 4-0) to a win in Section 1-AAA. Justin Eibel earned the shutout.
Thomas Jefferson 2, West Mifflin1 — Matt Prezioso scored both goals to lead Thomas Jefferson (6-3, 3-2) to a victory in Section 3-AA.
Greensburg Central Catholic sisters Alyvia and Michaela Kluska will face off in the WPIAL Class AA singles finals Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shady Side Academy after the pair cruised through the early rounds. Alyvia, a junior, lost just two games in three matches, and Michaela, a sophomore, lost just six games.
In Class AAA, top-seeded Ananya Dua from Shady Side Academy will face Upper St. Clair’s Charlotte Madson.
Avonworth QB injured
Avonworth quarterback Zach Chandler likely will miss Friday’s nonconference game at Shenango due to an ankle injury, coach Duke Johncour said. Chandler, who has passed for 742 yards and six touchdowns, is undergoing surgery Thursday, and his possible return date is not yet known.
Seton-La Salle senior Joey Walz committed to Marshall for girls golf. Walz placed second in the PIAA individual championships as a freshman and seventh as a junior.
â¢ West Allegheny senior Colin Claus, a right-handed pitcher, committed to IUP for baseball. Claus went 9-1 with 58 strikeouts for the 2013 WPIAL champ.
