Joe Lafko had 37 points as Hampton earned a long-awaited 87-67 nonsection win at New Castle, snapping the three-time defending WPIAL champion Red Hurricanes’ 33-game winning streak.

New Castle had won nine straight against Hampton, which lost to New Castle in the past three title games.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 71, Gateway 69 — Tristan Newcamp and Vince Leggarde had 14 points each to carry Class A No. 2 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (1-2) to a nonsection win. Frank Bozicevic had 22 points for Class AAAA No. 5 Gateway (2-1).

Elizabeth Forward 70, Yough 66 — George Prota scored 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Elizabeth Forward to a nonsection win.

Brian Malloy finished with 20 points for Elizabeth Forward (2-1). Nick Beers, Jake O’Bradovich and Matt Huss all finished with 11 points for Yough (2-1).

Franklin Regional 67, Monessen 54 — Todd Summers scored 26 points to lead Franklin Regional (1-2) to a win at the Mike Rettger tournament.

Indiana 69, Knoch 48 — Riley Stapleton scored a game-high 18 points, leading three players in double figures as the Class AAA No. 2 Indians (3-0) defeated the Knights. Blake Shields added 14 points, and Dylan Stapleton scored 12 for Indiana. Austin Hannes led Knoch (1-2) with 12 points.

North Allegheny 53, Mt. Lebanon 50 — Will Sandherr, who finished with 10 points, hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lead Class AAAA No. 2 North Allegheny to a nonsection win. North Allegheny’s Cole Costantino led all scorers with 25 points. Patrick Ehland led Mt. Lebanon (2-1) with 18 points. Mark Lamendola and Matt Hoffman added 10 points each for Mt. Lebanon.

Norwin 81, Jeannette 72 — Curtis Perz scored a game-high 33 points to lead Norwin to a win in the Mike Rettger tournament at Franklin Regional. Logan Deri (14) and Zeke Kljucaric (10) reached double-figures for Norwin, while Julian Batts led Class A No. 3 Jeanette with 31 points.

Girls basketball

Bishop Canevin 48, Chartiers Valley 43 (OT) — Erin Joyce, who finished with 11 points, forced overtime at the buzzer for Classs AA No. 5 Bishop Canevin (1-2). Sarah Green (15) and Gina Vallecorsa (11) reached double-figures for Bishop Canevin. Alexa Golden led Chartiers Valley (1-2) with 11 points.

Blackhawk 71, Fox Chapel 38 — Chassidy Omogrosso, who hit three 3-pointers, led Class AAA No. 1 Blackhawk (2-1) with 29 points in a nonsection win over Fox Chapel (0-3). Bridgette Shaffer (15), who made three 3-pointers, and Madison Amalia (10) reached double figures for Blackhawk.

Hampton 58, Mt. Pleasant 47 — Senior Alexa Szelong scored a game-high 21 points, giving her 1,015 points for her career, but the Vikings (2-1) were defeated by host Hampton in a nonsection game. Morgan Barlock netted 15 points for Mt. Pleasant.

Jada Alim led the Talbots (2-1) with 15 points. Maddy Nelligan and Jenna Lafko each scored 10 points.

North Allegheny 64, Altoona 32 — Abbey Gonzales finished with 17 points, eight steals and seven assists to lead Class AAAA No. 2 North Allegheny (3-0) to a nonsection win. Taylor Lake scored 15 points for North Allegheny (3-0), while Paige Whitfield led Altoona (0-3) with 10 points.

North Hills 50, Shady Side Academy 19 — Jamie Halloran paced all scorers with 22 points to lead North Hills (3-1) to a nonsection win over Shady Side Academy (0-3). Melanie Lindsey (12) and Anna Treser (10) also reached double figures for North Hills.

Pine-Richland 52, Mars 40 — Amanda Kalin scored a game-high 23 points to lead Pine-Richland (2-1) in a nonsection win. Chelsea Rourke added 13 points in the win. Sara Getsy led Mars (2-1) with 13 points.

Seton-La Salle 72, Vincentian Academy 68 — Cassidy Walsh scored a team-high 26 points to lead Class AA No. 1 Seton-La Salle (1-2) to a nonsection win. Nicolete Newman (17), Morgan Henderson (16) and Shaunay Edmonds (10) all reached double-figures for Seton-La Salle. Breanna Wise scored a game-high 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Class A No. 1 Vincentian Academy (2-1), which defeated the Rebels on Friday. Torrieonna Cash added 12 points and eight assists in the loss.
