An East Vandergrift man died on Friday from injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run accident in Lower Burrell the night before.
Robert Zidek, 46, was found along Wildlife Lodge Road near Coulson Drive about 9:15 p.m.
Lower Burrell Patrolman Tim Weitzel said Zidek died between 1 and 2 a.m. in a Pittsburgh hospital.
Police are still searching for clues about whoever hit him.
"We are asking anyone with information to call us," Weitzel said.
Friends and family of Zidek came to the accident scene yesterday afternoon. They also held a candlelight vigil in the evening.
Friends told WPXI TV that Zidek was walking to Rose's department store to pick up his girlfriend's daughter from work when he was struck.
"It is a struggle for me to just get up ... and go through the motions of my life," his girlfriend, Gina Brandolino, told WPXI. "I just wish I had five minutes (with him) ... to tell him how much I cared for him."
Friend Bobby Ziencik said of Zidek, "If there was one person I could call it was him."
A witness who heard, but didn't see, the accident, told police he saw a burgundy Dodge pickup moments after he looked toward the accident scene.
Police aren't sure if the pickup, which has front-end damage, was involved or if that driver saw the accident. They were checking auto body shops in case the driver took the vehicle to be repaired.
Wildlife Lodge Road is heavily used. Coulson Drive is a dead-end residential street with few residences, Weitzel said.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Zidek died but said any autopsy would be done by the Westmoreland County coroner's office. That office referred calls to the district attorney's office.
Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck Jr. said an autopsy was scheduled for yesterday. Results weren't immediately available.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lower Burrell police at 724- 339-4287.
