Hot water from the fridge?

It might sound like a contradiction, but GE's new Cafe French door refrigerator dispenses hot water as well as cold.

The refrigerator's door-mounted dispenser can supply 10 ounces of heated, filtered water in two to five minutes.

It can be programmed for any temperature from 90 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, or users can choose one of four pre-programmed settings: 90 degrees for warm water, 150 degrees for making cocoa, 170 degrees for making tea or 185 degrees for making soup.

The hot-water dispenser requires the user to both push and turn a knob to safeguard against accidentally dispensing heated water.

Even with the added feature, the 29-cubic-foot refrigerator still meets Energy Star standards.

The refrigerator has an estimated retail price of $3,099.

East Liberty's Townhouse to showcase designers

From Aug. 1 to 22, Townhouse, a pop-up furniture store in East Liberty, will host shows by several Pittsburgh designers: Bones and All, Day Shift Furniture and Cenzo Designs.

Townhouse, a collaboration of Epic Development, Weisshouse, The Shop in East Liberty and The Beauty Shoppe, opened in May.

“One of the biggest questions we've had from customers is if the product we carry is local, of which none of it is,” says Michael McAllister of Epic Development. “As a result, we set out to bring a show of local producers to the store.”

Bones and All uses salvaged and found materials to create custom furniture, home goods and decorative objects. Their blend of Craftsman and American Primitive aesthetics yields a distinct style that is both rustic and modern.

Day Shift Furniture manufactures furniture and products from an ever-growing line of their own modern designs and produces site-specific furnishings for any space. Their work is built by hand, from sustainable materials, in Pittsburgh.

Cenzo Design is a design-and-build furniture studio based in Pittsburgh. Their work is inspired by the belief that great furniture is rooted in innovative design, excellent craftsmanship and a passion for simple living.

Townhouse, at 6016 Penn Ave., will be open through December. Details: facebook.com/townhousepgh
