Hong Kong's Immigration Department has said it expects 4.25 million people to pass through transport control points during the seven-day Golden Week holiday. The number, which includes land, sea, and air control points, is up 16 percent from last year, reported official Chinese government news agency Xinhua. Golden Week is the traditional peak travel period for Chinese tourists and Hong Kong has historically proven to be a popular destination. A total of 460,000 Chinese mainland tourists are expected to visit Hong Kong during the holiday this year. The department said a total 156,000 people entered into Hong Kong via land, air, and sea routes by 5:00 p.m. local time Sunday. The department expects April 30 to be a peak period for Hong Kong residents' traveling out, and they expect May 2 to be the peak period for Chinese tourists to enter Hong Kong. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
