Several popular TV shows and movies are created from comic books and graphic novels.
Some people fall in love with the comic books first, then the television show, or others start to read the comic book after they see the story come to life on the screen.
Now, there's a free way to access comic books with your Allegheny County library card. Hoopla Digital has just added comic books to its collections. As you might remember, Hoopla has a selection of movies, television shows, music and audiobooks that you can borrow to your device or stream from your computer.
Now it has added even more content to the site.
First, let's start with the comic and graphic-novel options. You can search by title for what you are looking for or browse by different categories, including Superheroes, As Seen On The Screen and Leading Ladies.
What is a nice feature about the comic books is that you have different options how you can view the comics. You can read them full page or select panel-to-panel. The panel-to-panel option allows you to zoom in on a specific frame. Then you can simply flip to the next frame. This is a great way to see all the action in a comic book close up right on your computer or device.
Now Hoopla is offering e-books available to be checked out, as well. If you are an active e-book user and use OverDrive to borrow e-books from the library, there won't be too much overlapping content with Hoopla. There is a different selection of books available to borrow.
You can adjust the text size, add bookmarks, change the spacing and pick up right where you left off.
For both the comic books and e-books, it is an easy-to-use interface once you've selected your title. Remember with Hoopla, there is no waiting, and content is available to borrow right away!
Whether you are reading an e-book or a comic book, you can read them on your tablet, smartphone or computer and borrow them for three weeks.
