Cindy Weir continued her domination of the WPIAL’s fastest swimming event Friday night at Pitt’s Trees Pool.
Weir, a senior at Penn-Trafford, won her fourth consecutive 50-meter freestyle title at the WPIAL swimming championships.
Weir’s time of 23.88 seconds also qualifies her for the PIAA championships, scheduled for March 9-10 at Penn State’s McCoy Natatorium. She is the two-time defending state champion in the event, and she will seek her third WPIAL 100 free title this afternoon. In addition, she qualified for the PIAAs in the 200 medley relay with teammates Kelly Rovnak, Jillian Rupinski and Emily Casino.
The Indiana team of Ryan Grindle, Kellen Novels, Lucas Dushac and Travis Kochel won the boys’ 200 medley relay, with Franklin Regional finishing second. Ryan Brennan of Franklin Regional was also victorious in the 100 butterfly.
Competition continues today with the Class AA meet at 11 a.m. and the Class AAA events at 3 p.m.
