Re. the story “Horse seizure charges withdrawn” (Aug. 8): With all due respect to Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger, something more than just the horse manure smells in this case.

I have seen the photos of these horses from the Equine Angels website. The horses in the “before” photos — taken when they arrived at Equine Angels — look rather ragged. The “after” photos show healthy-looking animals.

The DA says that photographs are not enough evidence and wouldn’t overcome “reasonable doubt” at trial. If these photos were of a child, would he say the same thing? I think not. If he did, both he and the child’s caregivers would be labeled monsters. So why is Goldinger not standing up for those that cannot speak for themselves?

I have been involved in rescuing abused horses. I can guarantee that animals don’t look like that if they’re neglected/not fed for a day or two.

This is a long-term pattern of neglect. These owners shouldn’t get their animals back.
