HOV lanes to north, south to close late this week
The HOV lanes to the north and south of Pittsburgh will close for separate projects Thursday and Friday.
PennDOT postponed work on the Interstate 279 HOV lanes from tonight until Thursday morning due to supplies not being delivered on time, said spokesman Jim Struzzi. The lanes will close starting at 5 a.m. Thursday and reopen at 5 a.m. Friday. They normally are open to inbound traffic from 5 to 9 a.m. and to outbound traffic from 3 p.m. to 4 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
Duquesne Light will be doing electrical work near the North Shore entrances to the lanes, cutting off power to the traffic signals and gates.
To the south, Port Authority of Allegheny County will close the HOV lanes through the Wabash Tunnel from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday while crews inspect the bridge leading up to the tunnel portal on the northern side of Mt. Washington, said Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie.
