Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who heads the Liberal-National coalition, has given two top posts to the Nationals in a Cabinet reshuffle.

Warren Truss was named transport minister, while Peter McGauran will succeed Truss as agriculture minister, The Australian newspaper reported.

The reshuffle follows the resignation last month of John Anderson as deputy prime minister and transport minister.

Mark Vaile will become the new deputy prime minister while retaining his current trade minister portfolio.
