The South Park baseball team enters this week unbeaten at 16-0, and there's no secret for the success.
The Eagles can hit. All of them.
As a team, South Park is batting .408 with a .545 on-base percentage. They are outscoring opponents, 182-31, and averaging 11.375 runs per game.
“We're a mature team. A lot of these guys have been starting for three years,” coach Steve Bucci said. “There aren't any weak spots in our lineup, which is tough to do at any level.”
South Park, led by six three-year letter winners, has seven players hitting better than .350: Nick Yobbi (.576), Justin Dilla (.538), Shane Fetsko (.452), Jake Bylwalski (.440), Chris Winkler (.435), Carter Grote (.391) and Greg Pantuso (.375).
Shaler hires coach
Brian Bibey has been named the new Shaler boys basketball coach, succeeding Paul Holzshu, who retired after this past season. Bibey has served as an assistant at W&J and Mount Union and was head coach at Pitt-Titusville.
20 under 20
Plum native Bjorn Fratangelo, 19, was picked to the USTA's 20 under 20 list of players to watch. He won his first professional title at the $10,000 Futures in Weston, Fla. earlier this year and has reached two other Futures finals.
