Indiana County crashes kill 2 men
Two crashes Saturday in Indiana County killed two men and left a woman in critical condition.
Indiana County Coroner Mike Baker identified the two men as Jeffrey J. Weber, Jr., 25, of Indiana Borough and Jeffrey Lynn Fox, 39, of Seward. A woman riding with Weber was flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital, officials said. Police did not release her identity.
Baker said it appeared that Weber's motorcycle crossed the center line of Route 286 in White and traveled into the path of another vehicle. Both Weber and the woman were tossed from the bike onto the road, the coroner said.
Weber was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:28 a.m., about 40 minutes after the crash.
The three unidentified occupants of the vehicle that was struck were not injured. All three were wearing seat belts, police said.
In a separate crash, state police said Fox was traveling west on Route 22 in East Wheatfield when he tried to negotiate a slight left curve but struck three directional pylons instead. The pylons were replacements for guide rails that had been taken out by a fatal tractor-trailer accident last week, police said.
Fox's Chevrolet Malibu went off the road and down a steep embankment.
Fox, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Baker.
Both Fox and Weber died of blunt force trauma, the coroner said. Autopsies were not planned, and toxicology tests were pending.
