Anyone looking to get an inexpensive haircut will now have one more option. Nelbels Barbershop, Salon and Tanning, located on 225 Water St. in Connellsville, opened this week.
"I wanted to be able to help out people who might not be able to afford a haircut. It is ridiculous to pay $18 to $20 just for a regular haircut," said Nelbels owner Danielle Emerick, of Connellsville.
Danielle Emerick has 23 years experience cutting hair as an employee of Fantastic Sam's and as a manager at Mastercuts.
Nelbels will offer tanning, waxing, and haircutting for both men and women.
Danielle Emerick's brother, Trev Emerick is the owner of Sidewinders Bar, and allowed Danielle Emerick to use the extra room for the barbershop free of charge. He also helped to set her up.
"My brother told me I could have the spare room and told me to set up the barbershop," Danielle Emerick said.
Since she doesn't have to pay rent, Danielle Emerick said that she can keep her prices low.
"My brother doesn't charge me rent, so I can use that money I am saving to give back to the people. I'm not in it for the money. It's something I love to do," she said.
Danielle Emerick charges $5 for haircuts for men and $10 for women. Nelbels also offers tanning and waxing.
"I will have the cheapest tanning lotion in town," she promised.
Danielle Emerick's daughter, Donnell Black, also works at Nelbels.
Nelbels is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays by appointment.
