• Center Sidney Crosby (mild concussion) did not accompany the Penguins to Montreal for their game Wednesday night against the Canadiens. Coach Dan Bylsma said Crosby "is getting better, but we're not going to move forward until the symptoms subside." Bylsma added that Crosby will undergo additional tests this week. Crosby has missed four consecutive games since he was injured Jan. 5 on a check from behind into the boards at home by Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman, who was penalized in the game but not fined or suspended by the NHL.

• Forward Dustin Jeffrey was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton before the game. The move was made because right wing Arron Asham had recovered from an illness. Asham was one of several Penguins to be hit with a virus during the past week.

• A virus assisted the Penguins against Montreal, as Canadiens left wing Mike Cammalleri did not play. He also didn't play Tuesday at the New York Rangers. Though he has scored only three goals in nine regular-season games against the Penguins, Cammalleri torched them for seven last postseason -- including three in Games 6 and 7 of a second-round playoff series win for Montreal.

• The Haitian orphanage for which Penguins forwards Max Talbot and Mike Rupp helped raise funds to construct a roof is expected to welcome its first orphans in the next week. Talbot's charitable foundation launch-party in November put the project over the top. Talbot and Rupp joined former Pirates first baseman Sean Casey on a trip to Haiti last summer. Yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the earthquake that devastated the country.

• Penguins center Evgeni Malkin, who again played mostly on a line with left wing Chris Kunitz and right wing Pascal Dupuis, said this was his last game in his worn-down skates. The skates are replica of his current Bauer model, but Malkin has been resistant to switch to new boots, which he has been testing for a month, because of his comfort with the current ones.
