A vape stick caused a fire late Wednesday on the ground floor of Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Wallwork Hall dormitory.

The fire was reported just before 11:30 p.m., according to the Indiana Fire Association. The dorm's sprinkler system doused the flames before firefighters arrived, the association said.

The dorm, which is home to about 700 students, was evacuated. No one was hurt.

The fire started in the corner of a student's bed.

It resulted in smoke and heat damage near the bed and water damage from the sprinkler system, the fire association said.

Six students were displaced by the fire and will stay in temporary housing. Other residents of the dorm returned to their rooms by 1 a.m., IUP spokeswoman Michelle Fryling said.

"We're very grateful there were no injuries," Fyling said.
