Indiana (Pa.) is expected to look to conference rival Edinboro today when it names Lou Tepper to replace Frank Cignetti as football coach, multiple sources told the Tribune-Review. IUP has called a news conference for 11 a.m. to announce the appointment of its next coach. Tepper, 60, has been the coach at Edinboro for the past six seasons and led the team to a share of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship during the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons. Overall, his Edinboro teams were 40-25, including consecutive 9-3 seasons in '03 and '04 and an 8-2 record last year. He has been the PSAC West Coach of the Year in each of the past two seasons. Tepper's coaching background includes five full seasons at Illinois of the Big Ten where he compiled a 25-31-2 record, with two bowl appearances. At Illinois, Tepper helped produce Butkus Award winners Dana Howard in 1994 and Kevin Hardy in 1995 and Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year Simeon Rice in '94. A native of Derry Township in Westmoreland County, Tepper began his coaching career as an assistant at Pitt in 1967 and later spent time as an assistant at several schools, including Virginia Tech, Colorado and Louisiana State. He was hired at Edinboro in 2000 and led a team that had totaled 11 victories the three previous seasons to a berth in the Division II national playoffs in 2003. Edinboro finished the '03 and '04 seasons ranked 18th in the American Football Coaches Association poll. One of Tepper's most impressive victories at Edinboro was a 28-20 decision against fourth-ranked IUP on the Indians' home field in '03. Cignetti announced his resignation in November after 20 seasons as the head coach at IUP.
