Jabbour announces council resignation

West Mifflin Councilman Jay Jabbour announced he will resign his borough post on Tuesday.

Jabbour, a four-term borough councilman, was appointed to Allegheny County Council on Sept. 25. According to the county's home rule charter, Jabbour would have to resign the borough council seat before taking the post on county council.

In the November election, Jabbour, 68, will face competition for the county post from Ron Garrison, 53, a Munhall Republican.

Jabbour replaced Richard Olasz, 71, who resigned his county council seat to seek a position on borough council.

Borough Council President Robert Kostelnik said council will have 30 days from Jabbour's resignation to appoint a new council member.
