Jack Heim to leave local TV show ‘Talk of the Town’
KITTANNING – Jack Heim often based his show, “Talk of the Town,” on differences of opinion.
Citing a disagreement in programming with station officials at Family-Life TV, Heim announced yesterday that he was no longer hosting the show, which airs at 8 p.m. Tuesdays.
Heim said that he asked for a tape of one of his previous shows to run on Tuesday because he didn’t have a guest, but that the station decided to air a program called “Pathways” with state Rep. Jeff Coleman and U.S. Rep. Phil English.
David Croyle, speaking for Family-Life, said the decision to run “Pathways” in Heim’s slot was two-fold – the state primary was a week away and both Coleman and English are up for re-election, and the show had sponsorship.
“Family-Life deeply regrets the decision made by Mr. Heim to not continue as host,” Croyle said. “We will actively look for another host.”
Heim’s show was one of the more popular shows on the station and often featured guests such as the county commissioners.
It also offered lighthearted fare as well, such as call-ins to Santa Claus and “things that used to be” shows.
“Mr. Croyle, for 10 years, gave me complete freedom,” Heim said, but added that not running the program he requested on Tuesday upset him.
“I honestly want people to know I won’t be on anymore,” said Heim. “I made a lot of friends through that show and I do appreciate that.”
“I think those shows were good shows and I think they served a purpose,” he added.
Croyle said the time slot will continue to be used as “a venue for community opinion.”
Local insurance broker George Capone will host the show May 21, Croyle said, adding that the station is looking for a permanent replacement.
