Jamie Foxx won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 77th Academy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday for his performance as Ray Charles in "Ray."

Foxx ran the table during the awards season, winning virtually all of the major awards for best actor -- including the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild Award.

He received a standing ovation as he took the stage at the Kodak Theatre to accept the statuette.

"Give it up for Ray Charles and his legacy," said Foxx, "and thank you Ray Charles for living it."

Foxx is the third African-American to be honored as Best Actor. Sidney Poitier won for "Lilies of the Field" and Denzel Washington last year for "Training Day."
