A Japanese trade group met Friday with Gov. Bill Richardson and businesses in New Mexico to discuss collaboration on hydrogen fuel cell technology.
The delegation stopped at Los Alamos National Laboratory and then visited Richardson to discuss possible partnerships in the development and commercialization of the technology.
"New Mexico can and will become the world leader in the development of renewable energy technology," Richardson said in a statement.
The governor said he is committed to creating new jobs for New Mexicans and putting the state's technology resources to work in diversifying the world's energy sources.
"Hydrogen fuel cell technologies hold the possibility for profoundly changing the economy of the 21st century by providing the next generation of fuels," said Ando Haruhiko, director of the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the leader of the delegation.
The Japanese group included representatives from Toyota Motor Corp., Honda R & D Co., and Nissan Motor Corp.
