The Japanese Imperial Household Agency is deciding whether 3-year-old Princess Aiko will begin kindergarten in April. However, an aide to Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako told the Mainichi Daily News it’s unlikely the princess will enter school. “Necessary steps will be taken based on the opinions of their Imperial Highnesses,” said Hideki Hayashida, the grand master of the Crown Prince’s Household. Crown Princess Masako, who has been reportedly battling depression, was grateful for the warmth displayed by well-wishers who visited the Imperial Palace Jan. 2 to greet the Imperial Family for the New Year, Hayashida said. “Her Imperial Highness was glad to feel the kindness,” he said. It was the first time in about 13 months she had performed an official duty as a member of the Imperial Family. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
