Japanese lawmaker Yoji Nagaoka, who was criticized by fellow party members for a recent vote, died Monday after he hanged himself at his home.
Nagoka, 54, who belonged to the Liberal Democratic Party's in-house faction, voted for a bill that would privatize Japan's postal system. Some members of the faction reportedly criticized Nagaoka and other politicians for voting for the measure, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Monday.
Media reports said Nagoka hanged himself with a necktie and was found by his wife. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead a few hours later.
After graduating from the law faculty of the University of Tokyo in 1975, Nagaoka joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. He was elected to the Diet in a by-election in 2003.
