A Jeannette man was killed in a three-vehicle crash Monday evening on Route 30.
Anthony Markitell, 44, was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m. by emergency room staff at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for 9 a.m. today. Markitell was riding a motorcycle west on Route 30 when the accident occurred at the intersection with Village Drive in Mountain View.
Wayne Forsyth, deputy assistant chief of the Marguerite Volunteer Fire Department, said the victim was unconscious on the roadway when emergency personnel arrived.
Two sport-utility vehicles were involved in the crash, which a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said occurred at about 6:50 p.m. State police at Greensburg, who were investigating, said one sport-utility vehicle was operated by Janalee Westerman, 36, no address available, with three passengers ages 12, 10 and 2, none of whom was reported injured.
The driver of the other SUV, Terry Hartman, 53, no address available, was not reported injured.
Five fire companies responded to the scene.
"We had some fluid and oil on the road, and we had to use some hazmat (materials) to keep it from going into the storm drain," Forsyth said. "Mostly we (handled) traffic control."
Route 30 was closed in the westbound lane from Beatty Crossroads to the traffic signal at Mountain View Inn for about 3 1/2 hours. Traffic was detoured onto Frye Farm Road.
