Jefferson Hills Borough Council on Monday unanimously denied plans for the Washington Square subdivision, a 140-unit housing development off of Gill Hall Road, saying the plans were incomplete.
Council invited Sothersby Development of Sewickley to resubmit plans for the 50-acre property it owns.
“(The plans) were loaded with deficiencies,” said Tracey Khalil, Jefferson Hills councilman. “There were a lot of concerns. In my three-and-a half years of reviewing these things, it’s been the worst presentation of a plan that I can recall.”
Council members said the project didn’t meet specific criteria, including an incomplete storm water management plan.
Their vote followed the recommendations of Allen Cohen, the borough’s community planner; Ruthann Omer, borough engineer; and the planning commission.
“Rather than approve that, I just felt that they go back, let the developer work on the plan and resubmit it,” Khalil said.
Several residents spoke in favor of the denial, many of whom expressed concern over safety issues and traffic in the Gill Hall corridor.
“Our obligation is to protect the health and public safety,” Councilman John Scott Albrecht said.
