British actor Jeremy Irons said his new film about infidelity mirrors his own 26-year marriage to actress Sinead Cusack.

Irons, who stars in "Being Julia" with Annette Bening, has spoken for the first time about problems in his marriage, the subject of years of tabloid speculation because of Irons' habit of kissing and snuggling with female co-stars, Britain's Daily Mail reported Thursday.

"Failures of trust, imagination, relying on each other too much, falling into the trap of thinking your happiness depends upon the other person, rather than thinking, 'No, your happiness depends on me ... All the things I have learned came out in the film," Irons said.

"Being Julia" is about a married actress, played by Bening, who has an affair with a younger actor only to discover that the actor also is seeing a young starlet, who in turn is dating the actress' husband, Irons' character.

Three years ago, Irons was photographed kissing Patricia Kass, his co-star at the time. Earlier this month, the actor was cuddling with Lynn Collins, a recent leading lady, at Italy's Venice Film Festival.
