Regular readers of Trib Tested might remember that I consider the dark circles under my eyes among the banes of my existence. Unfortunately, Joey New York Young Coconut Water Complex Day Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo didn't go a long way toward eliminating my flaw.

In the morning, I started with the Lift-Up Day Eye Gel. I enjoyed the cooling sensation, which helped me shake off the grogginess I inevitably have until about halfway through my classes at the gym. At night, I applied the Firm And Tone Night Eye Cream, which was always soothing after a long day.

Despite the two-week regimen, though, I never noticed a dramatic improvement in the appearance of my dark circles. There might have been a slight lightening in the area, but not enough to dazzle me. Both products can be used as a masque by layering the cream on top of the gel and leaving it on for up to 15 minutes. I'll definitely keep the eye duo around for days when I feel that my eye area needs a perk and I feel like using a masque, but otherwise, to tackle my dark circles, I'll be sticking to my favorite drugstore brands, which are a fraction of the $44 price.

Genetics and a lack of sleep frequently combine to create world-class dark circles under my eyes. No, there are no raccoons in my lineage, but we'll forgive anyone who makes the assumption that I'm related to a nocturnal rodent when they see those circles.

Given that background and my advanced age, I was a natural to try out Joey New York's new Eye Duo, a two-vial combination of Young Coconut Water Complex Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo that boasts it may be the next best thing to rolling back the calendar and getting eight hours of sleep.

Although the night cream feels good when I apply it under my eyes, it's a thin cream and seems to have less impact than some of the richer creams I've used over the years. I love the rich creams, but this one might be more appropriate for younger eyes. As for the complex gel, it performs as advertised, temporarily tightening and lightening those nasty dark circles.

At $44 for the set, I'd rather invest in a rich cream and go with one of the inexpensive caffeine-based gels that seem to work just as well as Young Coconut Water Complex Gel.

As a person who daily vows to go to bed at a reasonable hour, then inevitably stays up until all hours of the night watching sitcom re-runs, I know all about dark under-eye circles. What I've never known is how to get rid of them. Joey New York Young Coconut Water Complex Gel & Night Cream Eye Duo is a pretty decent defense against the darkness. I used the Lift-Up Eye Gel, formulated to reduce the look of wrinkles, in the morning and the Firm and Tone Eye Cream, which moisturizes and smoothes crow's feet to create a rested look, at night. If it's been a particularly long night (or day), users can layer the cream on top of the eye gel to create a masque.

After about two weeks, I found myself applying less concealer under my eyes. The wrinkles around my eyes also appeared a bit thinner. I liked the cooling sensation the gel provided in the morning. The night cream is not thick, and you only have to use a small dab to cover the eye area. All in all, the product delivered its promise to make me look more rested, no matter how many re-runs I watched the night before.
