Jordan’s King Abdullah will not attend the Arab summit in Algiers and will be represented by Prime Minister Faycal al-Fayez, it was announced Monday. The official Petra news agency said Fayez left Amman Monday to head the Jordanian delegation for Tuesday’s summit, but gave no reason why Abdullah was staying home. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas left Amman for Algiers Monday to lead the Palestinian delegation. “We will present the Palestinian cause clearly at the Arab meeting although the Arabs need no further clarification, but the aim is to urge them for further political and financial support to the Palestinians,” Abbas said. Abbas will be the Palestinian president to take part in the Arab summit since 2001. Several Arab heads of state are expected to forego the summit, including Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah, Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh and Lebanon’s Emile Lahoud. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
