Canadian newspaper and television journalist Alan Edmonds has died at age 71 of liver disease in Toronto.

Edmonds, best known as one of the hosts of the CTV-TV show "Live It Up!," also worked at many of Canada's leading magazines and newspapers, including Maclean's magazine, the Toronto Star and the Toronto Sun, the Globe and Mail reported Monday.

In addition, Edmonds also wrote several books, including "The Ion Effect: How Electricity Rules Your Life" and "Health with Fred Soyka."

"He always had a flair for the dramatic," said friend and fellow writer David Cobb, who said Edmonds slipped into a coma Friday.

He is survived by his wife, Hester, sons David and John, and daughter Sarah.
