JSfirm.com hopes to relocate to Mt. Pleasant hardware site
Before Halloween, officials at JSfirm.com Aviation Employment Service and Aviation Search Group hope to relocate the company's local headquarters to the Mt. Pleasant building that formerly housed George and Cunningham Hardware Inc.
"We're hoping for sometime in October," said Sam Scanlon, a part-owner of the Pittsburgh-based company with an office in the Executive Building at 220 Bessemer Road in the borough, regarding the pending move. "It's an exciting time. We're moving forward, and all is good."
In the meantime, Scanlon said, the company is conducting interviews to beef up its staff to take advantage of the additional space it officially acquired July 1 from Scottdale's Robert George, former owner of the 7,000-square-foot building at 607 W. Main St.
"Our company's doing well despite the gloomy economic outlook. Our growth is on schedule, and our sales goals are close to 100 percent," Scanlon said. "I think as we move in there and get settled toward fall, there will be a number of positions available."
JSfirm.com is an online jobs board for the aerospace and aviation industry that is similar to employment websites like Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com, Scanlon said.
The site counts 4,000 aviation companies as users and 200,000 resume members, Scanlon said, and it gets 12 million hits a month.
Aviation Search Group, according to Scanlon, is an executive and technical recruiting firm within the aviation and aerospace markets.
The two companies combine to support aerospace and defense aviation industries both in the United States and internationally, he said.
With that in mind, the company is seeking what Scanlon termed as "... savvy, college-educated individuals with a knowledge of the Internet and a willingness to travel."
The company is interviewing applicants for two business developer positions with JSfirm.com, he said.
Employment in those positions requires the ability to maintain hundreds of clients' accounts and to create and manage new client accounts, along with a willingness to travel mostly domestically but, at times, internationally, Scanlon said.
JSfirm.com is also seeking a software engineer, Scanlon said, to write various types of code for web applications and custom programming features.
"One of the main requirements of that position is to be able to take job information from a company like Boeing, which is one of our clients, and write codes so the Boeing website can better communicate with our website," Scanlon said.
For Aviation Search Group, the company is looking to fill four to five executive recruiter positions, he said.
"Our firm's pretty sought after in the aviation industry for companies looking to find specific, hard-to-find talent," Scanlon said. "It can be anything from a president of an aviation company to a pilot for an airline. It's very wide, but our network is so strong in the industry that we cover a lot of those disciplines."
The company chose to remain in the borough during its expansion after reviewing potential moves to sites in Latrobe, Rostraver and Greensburg, Scanlon said.
Borough Mayor Jerry Lucia said he welcomes the addition of any expanding company.
"It's going to be good employment, and if they add 20 to 30 more employee, those employees will bank here, eat lunch and dinner at local restaurants. ... It's an overall benefit to the local economy."
As for the possibility of hiring local persons to the targeted positions, Scanlon said, all are free to apply.
"Our only priority is on qualifications," he said. "If we find local people with the qualifications we're looking for, so be it."
