'Julius Caesar' hits break-even point

"Julius Caesar" is mighty at the box office, at least on Broadway with superstar Denzel Washington playing one of his assassins.

Variety reports that the play hit the break-even point Sunday, and its backers can expect a total profit of $1 million when the limited run ends June 12.

The play opened April 3, getting a mixed reception from critics. But premium tickets have been selling briskly with seats going for an average price of $84.71, exceeded only by "Wicked" and "700 Sundays."

Variety reports that it's been a strong season on Broadway for straight plays, long overshadowed by musicals. "The Pillowman," "Doubt" and a revival of "Glengarry Glen Ross" have all been selling well.
