In a rush to judgment, Gov. Tom Corbett and the board of trustees from Penn State University launched their campaign to have Coach Joe Paterno fired.

The real perpetrator of the crimes was Jerry Sandusky. However, you wouldn’t think that listening to the arguments against Paterno.

Now, long after the fact and the death of Coach Paterno, Gov. Corbett has conceded that the coach should not have been fired.

Joe Paterno went to his grave believing he was a failure because the university he loved, the “Happy Valley” he helped put on the map, shunned and betrayed him in his final days.

Paterno reported the (then) allegations against Sandusky to his superiors. Ultimately, Jerry Sandusky was arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to prison.

The abused children may take a lifetime to recover from the atrocities perpetrated against them. They can take some consolation that Sandusky will never again be a free man. Justice was served.

Perhaps Corbett can now launch a vigorous campaign to undo the damage to Paterno.

Paterno should have his good name restored and Corbett should encourage the NCAA to reinstate the coach’s entire collegiate record.

Remember, the real criminal is behind bars.

Richard R. Ferrero Sr.
