Rapper Kanye West rolled out a video backing "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" about the horrors of the nation's diamond trade-centered civil war. "Diamonds" is the first track on West's much-anticipated second album, "Late Registration." The album's release date was delayed to Aug. 16. The "Diamonds" video, which made its debut Wednesday on BET, was shot in Prague and contrasts the elegance of diamond advertising with the horrors of civil war in Sierra Leone that centers on the diamond trade. "I wanted to do whatever I could to learn more and educate people about the problem," West told Billboard magazine. "We came with the concept for the video and, of course, I couldn't wait for the opportunity to rap on the subject." "Late Registration" is the follow-up to West's 2004 "The College Dropout," which peaked at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
