I'm writing about state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe's letter “Taking care of business” (Aug. 4), in which he discussed Gov. Tom Corbett saying Mr. Metcalfe should worry about his own business, not the governor's.
I say Gov. Corbett should take care of his own business and start being forthright with the citizens.
When he campaigned, he was all about creating jobs.
But once he got in office, he and Rep. Mike Turzai spent their time trying to privatize the state stores. That would've eliminated about 5,000 good-paying jobs. That's killing jobs, not creating them.
Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board reported revenue of $2.17 billion for 2012-13, a 4.59 percent increase from 2011-12. Net income is up by 24 percent from 2012 to $128 million. Of the net, $24 million went to the state police for enforcement of liquor laws; Philadelphia and Allegheny counties got $8 million.
Does this sound like the people are unhappy with the state store system? Are the people demanding it be privatized?
Now Corbett wants to add 28 cents of taxes on a gallon of gas.
How is this thinking about jobs? How is this helping the working class?
