Kittanning hockey team suffers first defeat
Kittanning’s hockey team fell for the first time this season in a 6-3 loss to Westmont Hilltop on Tuesday night at the Johnstown War Memorial.
Kittanning (2-1) trailed, 2-0, less than four minutes into the first period of the Class A game and watched its deficit grow to 6-1 through two periods. Heinz Koster scored twice early in the third period to cut down the lead and finished with a team-high three points.
“We were really bad early and weren’t ready to go,” Kittanning coach Jamie King said. “And then it was too little, too late. We could’ve come back. If we had maybe a few more minutes, we might’ve tied it.”
Noah McQuillan scored both of the first-period goals for Westmont Hilltop (2-1) and later earned an assist.
Hunter Grafton scored a power-play goal for Kittanning less than one minute into the second period. Eli Johns turned away 23 shots in net for the Wildcats, while Westmont Hilltop’s Adam Ayre made 28 saves.
