Laurel: To Armstrong School District faculty and administrators. The districtwide effort to encourage students to read during Read Across America Week, a celebration of Dr. Seuss, is marvelous. This touches every child, and parents should do what they can at home to enhance the effort.

Lance: To state lawmakers. A seemingly Teflon-coated Legislature passed off the decision for decreasing property taxes to local school boards and voters. This was apparent Monday when Armstrong directors reluctantly voted to put a question on the ballot that asks about boosting the earned income tax 0.6 percent. School directors say they don't appreciate the halfhearted "tax reform," and citizens should make it clear, as well, to their representatives.

Laurel : To church and fire hall volunteers. It is the Lenten season, and that means loads of hard work for those who make luscious fish dinners. Your customers love it.
