ROSS TWP. – It took about a half second after Ford City lost a 64-48 decision to Vincentian in the WPIAL-AA quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at North Hills High School for the Lady Sabers to become the Lady Royals No. 1 fans. “I told them when we were walking through (shaking hands) to go all the way,” Ford City head coach Al Davis said. “Knock off everybody so we can get the fifth seed.” If Vincentian wins its game against Washington, Ford City will get dragged into the PIAA-AA playoffs and, depending on how the Lady Royals fare, will get either the fifth or sixth seed in the state playoffs. “I don’t want to go to Erie,” Davis said. “I think if we get the fifth seed we play someone from District 6 and we play in the summer over there and we know the teams.” Even though the Lady Sabers trailed by as many as 23 Saturday, there is no panic coming from Ford City about being able to compete with teams from other districts. “I can’t say enough about my kids,” Davis said. “I don’t think they were intimidated…I think we could win a few games and that could give us confidence. That was a very good team.”
