State police are investigating an incident in which a Derry Township man lost nearly $1,000 in an apparent student loan scam.

According to police, Keith P. Rahea of Latrobe said that last month he wired approximately $950 to what police termed a fake loan company in Virginia as collateral on a student loan. Rahea did not receive the loan, and his money was not returned.

Rahea could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation is asked to contact state police at 724-832-3288.
