Laurel: To Connellsville police. Last week officers were called to an armed robbery at East Park. Two teenage girls were the victims. Police worked quickly and within a few hours had the suspects in custody. All too often we hear negative remarks about the work of local police. But with limited resources, the force is competently trying to keep our city safe.

Laurel: To Connellsville’s academic quiz team. The high school group recently brought home the traveling regional quiz team trophy — after more than a decade. We congratulate the team members as well as their coach, Dr. Justin Guess.

Helping hands: We encourage anyone who can quilt to join the community on May 17 at the Quilt ‘Till You Wilt fundraiser at Dunbar’s Franklin Memorial United Methodist Church. The event will raise money for Erika Miller, 2, who has been diagnosed with Rett syndrome. Expenses are mounting for the Normalville family. The Fay-West area always has been known for its generosity.
