The Fayette County Airport Authority board continued to mull over leases for businesses renting out of the Joseph A. Hardy Connellsville Airport in Dunbar Township.
Solicitor Mark Rowan presented two leases to be approved by the board during Wednesday’s meeting. Two leases were for Aviation Network LLC and the Washington Security Group.
Mark Shipley with Aviation Network LLC, which has operated its business on the site without a lease for a year, said it’s tough for his company to operate at the airport without a lease.
The proposed three-year lease was for the community hangar for a cost of $6,000 per year — $500 per month — and an agreement to purchase 1,000 gallons of fuel at the facility.
Board member Fred Davis took opposition to the lease, saying that board members should have more time to look over the details.
The board changed the lease by basing it on the company having three different aircraft there for the same amount of rent per month and an extra $5 per day for more than three aircraft in the hangar.
The motion for the lease passed, with Davis casting the opposing vote and board member Todd Radolec abstaining.
Davis also had the only dissenting vote to the five-year lease for Washington Security Group for $22,000 per year with an option to have a baseline video document of any pre-existing conditions to the runway. The security group would be responsible for any damage to the runway.
“There’s no amount of time to consider the ramifications to the airport,” Davis said.
In other business, the authority:
— Received a two-page presentation of its 2009 audit by Leo Rudnik, who said it was a good and clean audit.
— Voted to appoint the law firm of Watson, Mundorff, Brooks & Sepic as the board’s solicitor, replacing Rowan, who announced earlier this year that he was resigning as solicitor. Davis cast the only dissenting vote.
